Carmen and Dan's New Edition

October 26th, 2011 and October 29, 2014

Hello 2017!

A new year has come and gone.  2016 was full of surprises and lots of memories were made. With each passing day Linc and Griff grow more into themselves.  Since, I have Hamilton on the brain; the phrase “How lucky we are to be alive right now” is reverberating in my head.  One of my core beliefs is that the happiest memories and moments really accumulate from the stuff that we experience daily.  We sometimes overlook these “little” moments and cling to the “big” things – vacations, holidays, etc.  Moments like: Linc helping with his laundry and telling me his plans for each article of clothing as we put it into the wash.  Or Griff throwing the unicorn behind the changing table and exclaiming: “oh no!”.   Me waking up covered in children.  These moments don’t last forever and they can easily be forgotten as time passes but they contribute so much to our daily happiness.  To paraphrase Hamilton, how lucky we are to have each other right now. Here is a peek at some of the memories we made this year:

Midsummer

So, here we are in the middle of summer and I can definitely say that we have been taking advantage of the warm weather.  Our days have been very busy and I can not believe that summer is almost over.  Of course that means state fair time! Although, I do feel bad that Adriana will have almost nothing to eat since there are very few vegan options out there.  Her veganism did lead me to try the regular (most of the others have animal byproducts) Boom Chicka popcorn and I can not recommend it enough.  Delish!!!  Why had I not tried that before?  Griff has decided sleep is his nemesis and likes to raise his arms and go “whee” when going down the hill towards our house or under tunnels.  Linc thinks he is an Olympian/American Ninja Warrior and wants to preform daredevil stunts…everywhere.  He also will start pre-K this Fall and I am so excited for him to start this journey (remember, I love school) and anxious about what these new changes mean for us (let alone how to rearrange our schedule).  Dan got me the Hamilton soundtrack for my birthday and I am addicted!!!  (That may seem like a random comment but I am putting it in here because that soundtrack has moved me so much.) Dan managed to find something that doesn’t cost a lot but has had a lasting impact. Guess he’s a keeper.  😉  So, here’s some snapshots of what we have been up to (when not listening to Hamilton in the car/kitchen/etc.):

The following video is very special to me.  It seems like a simple act of Lincoln riding his bike but it is one of many moments where you see how blessed Linc is to have a parent like Dan in his life.  Not all kids get to grow up with a parent who has both the resources AND the desire to do things like teach them to ride a bike.  A lot of people take it for granted that many kids have an adult like this in their lives and others don’t get what the big deal is.  It is a big deal.

Winter Break

The title is a joke.  There has been no break.  While there was a break in posting there definitely was not a break over here. We have been busy.  So very busy.  And it has taken my hours over a week to go through pictures, update flickr, update youtube and now post…  I am doing a happy dance right now. You just can’t see it!

Here are some pictures and videos.  Enjoy!

Happy New Year!

Hello 2016!  What adventures await us in this new year?  Yesterday, I saw footage from Rio de Janeiro and apparently on New Year’s Eve people will put flowers into the water and hope that the New Year wishes come true.  I mentioned this to Adriana and she said: “Resolutions.  Wishes.  Same thing.”  I told her that it felt like wishes were more hopeful and resolutions tended to be focused on what is wrong that needs fixing.  My daughter, the cynic, replied that resolutions were pretty much wishes since most people give up on them.  Ha!  I am not a big New Year’s Resolution person so apparently the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.  However, I still like the hopefulness of putting wishes out there.  My wish for my family is the one I “wish” every night; that they have safe, happy, healthy and long lives.  For all of those who have taken the moment to look at this and check in on us; I wish you the same.  Happy New Year!

Birthday boys

I expected that it would be hectic having two kids with birthdays in the same week…  The fact that those birthdays are on different days and that Halloween is in that same week and what you have is a whirlwind of activity in a short amount of time.  Super fun; but I think I am going to need a couple of months to prepare next year.  🙂  Thanks everyone for all of the birthday wishes and for coming out to celebrate the boys’ birthdays with us.  Griff is up so I am going to just post the pictures and video.  (Note: Dan took pictures at the Shoreview party so those are not available yet).

Birthdays on the horizon…

Next week Lincoln will turn 4 years old and Griffin will become a 1 year old.  It is always shocking to see them grow.  As I look back at previous photos and see how much they have grown it is amazing to see what they can do now that they couldn’t do a few months or a year ago.  Getting to see Adriana as an independent young woman reminds me that one day my little boys will become independent young men.  I am so lucky to witness these guys grow up and to have this unique bunch of personalities to call my family.  I am so lucky to have: Dan, Adriana, Lincoln and Griffin in my life.  On the outside this website seems like away to keep relatives updated on on lives.  But in a reality it is a love letter to my children.   Adriana, Lincoln and Griffin; I love you!

State Fair!!!

Since our last post we have just been enjoying the summer.  We went to the State Fair twice.  Man, it is a different experience taking two little ones to the fair.  Lincoln was obsessed with the Sky Ride.  He rode it round trip three times and whenever he would see the Sky Ride in the air he would get excited. This meant that he also did not want to veer out of sight of the Sky Ride.  Fun times.  He also rode the Giant Slide.  I didn’t think he would do it but he did it.  Griffin was pretty relaxed; the hardest thing was finding a comfortable spot to feed him.  Griffin turned 10 months old last month and now has 4 teeth!!!  Here are some pictures and videos from this year’s state fair and just all around fun summertime pics.

Summertime

Summer is always filled with lots of visits to the park and pool and just all around exhaustion!  It feels like we try to squeeze out every moment of the day.  Maybe it’s a Minnesota thing.  This appreciating the time to be outside because before you know it…”Winter is coming”! 😉  Since we are now in the same month as the state fair it feels like we have to grasp every possible moment left of summer.  So we will go out of our way to enjoy those days in the park and pool and just feel the warm sun beating on our skin.  I hope you everyone is having a great summer and has had a chance to enjoy the warm days wherever you are.

Now to some housekeeping.  I am not going to send out e-mails every time I update this website, flickr or youtube.  I also have, finally, listened to advice about protecting privacy and did a meta private listing of all of my flickr and youtube videos.  I may go and make some public on an individual basis but with the thousands of pictures I have on flickr and the 200+ videos on youtube that will take some time.  So what does this mean for you?  If you want to see pictures on flickr then you will need to get a flickr account (you can get a free one) and follow me.  You will also have to let me know what your flickr account name is so I know that it is you.  Right now except for the two videos below all of the videos on youtube are all listed as private.  I have not created a list from google+ yet of viewers so others can view the private videos.  It will take a while before I get everything up and running.

Now on to the fun stuff:

Hello

I am sorry that it has been so long between updates.  Anyone who needs a Lincoln and/or Griffin fix should check out our flickr pages.  Those are updated more frequently (just browse the photostream I tend to only update the albums the same time I update this website).  Youtube also tends to get updated a little more frequently as well.  If you subscribe (Youtube) or follow (Flickr) you can get updates, if you want, alerting you of when there are new pictures of the kiddos.

Quick Linc and Griff stories:

Today when looking at various images I showed Linc a picture of some bees and a honeycomb.  I asked him what he saw.  Instead of saying: “bees”. He said: “hexagons”.  He is one smart cookie.

Griff has recently started crawling and pulling himself up.  I am sure all kinds of  hijinks are on the horizon.

Update time!

So much has happened since my last post.  Lincoln and Griffin are growing up so fast.  The holidays have come and gone.  And we had to say good bye to our beloved Snickers.  It is really hard for me to get a chunk of time to do these updates.  I wish I could do them more frequently because I know there are family and friends who are not able to see Linc and Griff often and I want to be able to show them how Linc and Griff are growing up. While it is harder to get the pictures all together for the posts I tend to post on flickr more often. Please feel free to visit the following websites whenever you want a little Lincoln or Griffin fix.  If you want to you can subscribe/follow Dan or myself and you should get alerts when we update our flickr/youtube pages.
